Putting Drill Library

Drill 1: Gate Warm-Up

  1. Place the Gate Trainr 2 feet in front of your golf ball.
  2. Set the feet to the widest gate position.
  3. Roll the ball through the center of the gate.
  4. Repeat until your stroke feels smooth and confident.

✅ Use this as your warm-up at the beginning of every session.

Drill 2: Gate Starter

  1. Mark your hitting position 1 putter length behind the gate.
  2. Place the Gate Trainr directly in front of your hitting spot, at the widest setting.
  3. Roll the ball through the center of the gate.
  4. Continue until you’ve made 5 clean putts in a row.

Drill 3: Gate Line

  1. Start with the Gate Starter setup and make 5 shots.
  2. Move your hitting position back by 1 foot.
  3. Repeat the drill from the new distance.
  4. Keep stepping back after each successful round of 5.

💪 Expert Challenge: If you miss at any distance, return to the original putter-length spot and work your way back again.

Drill 4: Gate Narrowing

  1. Set the ball 1 putter length behind the gate at the widest setting.
  2. Make 5 clean putts.
  3. Narrow the gate by one setting and repeat.
  4. Continue until you succeed at the smallest setting.

💪 Expert Challenge: Miss a shot? Go back to the widest setting and restart.

Drill 5: The Combo

  1. Start 1 putter length away with gate at widest setting.
  2. Make 3 putts in a row, then narrow the gate.
  3. Repeat narrowing until smallest setting is completed.
  4. Move 1 foot back, reset gate to widest, and repeat.

Drill 6: Gate Speed Trap

  1. Place your ball 1 club length from the hole.
  2. Set the Gate Trainr just in front of the hole at widest setting.
  3. Putt through the gate and into the cup.
  4. Make 5 in a row.

Drill 7: Gate Speed Trap 2

  1. Complete Drill 6.
  2. Narrow the gate one setting.
  3. Make 5 in a row again.
  4. Repeat until you succeed at the smallest setting.

Drill 8: Gate to Target

  1. Place the gate 1 club length from the hole.
  2. Set your ball 1 club length behind the gate.
  3. Putt through the gate and into the hole.
  4. Repeat until 5 successful putts in a row are made.

Drill 9: The Ladder

  1. Set gate to widest setting.
  2. Mark putting spots at 1, 2, and 3 club lengths.
  3. Make 5 clean putts from each distance.
  4. Move back after each round, restarting if you miss.

💪 Expert Challenge: Miss at any distance? Return to the first spot and restart.

Drill 10: The Ladder (Hard)

  1. Complete Ladder at widest setting.
  2. Narrow the gate one level and repeat the full ladder.
  3. Continue narrowing until smallest gate width is completed.

💪 Expert Challenge: Miss at any point? Restart from first position with the widest setting.

Drill 11: Left of Cup

  1. Set left gate foot to widest, right foot to narrowest setting.
  2. Place ball 1 club length away.
  3. Putt through the gate and into the hole.
  4. Repeat 5 times in a row.

Drill 12: Left of Cup Ladder

  1. Use Drill 11 gate configuration.
  2. Mark 1, 2, and 3 club length hitting spots.
  3. Make 5 clean putts at each distance.
  4. Move back after each round.

Drill 13: Right of Cup

  1. Set right foot to widest, left to narrowest setting.
  2. Place ball 1 club length away.
  3. Make 5 clean putts through the gate and into the hole.

Drill 14: Right of Cup Ladder

  1. Use Drill 13 gate configuration.
  2. Mark hitting spots at 1, 2, and 3 club lengths.
  3. Make 5 clean putts from each distance.

Drill 15: Foot Alignment

  1. Separate the Gate Trainr feet from the top.
  2. Place one foot in front of each of your toes.
  3. Practice squaring your stance to the feet line.
  4. Putt with a ball centered in your stance.

Drill 16: Gate Foot Tempo

  1. Place ball on a flat spot.
  2. Set feet 1 foot before and after the ball.
  3. Use a smooth "1-2" tempo for backswing and follow-through.
  4. Repeat for 10 strokes, counting out loud or recording.

Drill 17: Pressure Putts

  1. Set gate 1 putter length away at medium width.
  2. Mark a tee 2 feet behind as a restart zone.
  3. Try to make 10 in a row.

Drill 18: Uphill Gate Challenge

  1. Find a slight uphill slope.
  2. Place Gate Trainr 2 feet in front of the ball at medium width.
  3. Putt through the gate and stop within 1 foot past.
  4. Repeat for 10 reps.

Drill 19: Downhill Gate Control

  1. Place Gate Trainr 1.5 feet ahead on a downhill slope.
  2. Use widest gate setting.
  3. Putt softly through gate and stop within 1 putter-head past.
  4. Repeat 5 in a row.

Drill 20: Eyes Closed Feel Drill

  1. Set up with gate 1 putter length away at medium width.
  2. Line up with eyes open, then close eyes before putting.
  3. Roll ball by feel and listen for results.
  4. Repeat for 10 reps.

Drill 21: Alternate Hand Challenge

  1. Place gate 1 putter length away.
  2. Switch grip to non-dominant hand.
  3. Make 5 clean putts.

Bonus: Alternate hands every putt for a coordination challenge.

Drill 22: Distance Control Gate Run

  1. Set up gates at 3, 6, and 9 feet using widest width.
  2. Putt through each gate in sequence.
  3. Make 1 through each and complete the circuit 3 times.

Drill 23: Walk-Into-It Drill

  1. Set gate 1 club length away.
  2. Stand 3 feet away, facing back.
  3. Walk into setup and hit within 5 seconds.
  4. Repeat for 10 reps.

Drill 24: Mirror Gate Drill

  1. Place alignment mirror behind gate.
  2. Set Gate Trainr 2 feet in front.
  3. Use mirror to square up your eyes and shoulders.
  4. Putt through gate while checking alignment.

Drill 25: Distance Drop-In

  1. Set the Gate Trainr feet 1 club length apart.
  2. Walk 10–20 steps away and mark your hitting spot.
  3. Try to stop the ball between the two feet without touching them.
  4. Repeat from 3 different distances.

Drill 26: Gate-to-Gate Lag Drill

  1. Place 2 Gate Trainr feet at your start zone, 2 feet apart.
  2. Walk 15–30 feet away and place the other 2 feet to form a target zone.
  3. Roll long putts and try to stop the ball between the target feet.
  4. Narrow the zone as you improve.

Drill 27: Visual Target Drill

  1. Stand the Gate Trainr feet upright in the ground like goalposts.
  2. Set them 5–8 feet away from your ball.
  3. Roll the ball through the narrow visual gap.
  4. Adjust angles to simulate different breaks.

Drill 28: Chase the Gap

  1. Place Gate Trainr feet 6 inches apart.
  2. Start 3 feet away and make a clean putt through the gap.
  3. Move back 1 foot after every successful make.
  4. See how far back you can go.

Drill 29: Speed Trap Stop Zone

  1. Place the feet 1 club length behind the hole.
  2. Putt to the hole and try to stop the ball before it reaches the feet.
  3. Helps train soft touch and pace control.

If the ball touches or passes the feet, it’s too fast.

Drill 30: Random Distance Game

  1. Place one foot randomly on the green.
  2. Drop a ball at any distance (15–30 feet).
  3. Try to stop the ball as close to the foot as possible.

Optional: Add a second foot to create a defined stop zone.
