Putting Drill Library
Drill 1: Gate Warm-Up
- Place the Gate Trainr 2 feet in front of your golf ball.
- Set the feet to the widest gate position.
- Roll the ball through the center of the gate.
- Repeat until your stroke feels smooth and confident.
✅ Use this as your warm-up at the beginning of every session.
Drill 2: Gate Starter
- Mark your hitting position 1 putter length behind the gate.
- Place the Gate Trainr directly in front of your hitting spot, at the widest setting.
- Roll the ball through the center of the gate.
- Continue until you’ve made 5 clean putts in a row.
Drill 3: Gate Line
- Start with the Gate Starter setup and make 5 shots.
- Move your hitting position back by 1 foot.
- Repeat the drill from the new distance.
- Keep stepping back after each successful round of 5.
💪 Expert Challenge: If you miss at any distance, return to the original putter-length spot and work your way back again.
Drill 4: Gate Narrowing
- Set the ball 1 putter length behind the gate at the widest setting.
- Make 5 clean putts.
- Narrow the gate by one setting and repeat.
- Continue until you succeed at the smallest setting.
💪 Expert Challenge: Miss a shot? Go back to the widest setting and restart.
Drill 5: The Combo
- Start 1 putter length away with gate at widest setting.
- Make 3 putts in a row, then narrow the gate.
- Repeat narrowing until smallest setting is completed.
- Move 1 foot back, reset gate to widest, and repeat.
Drill 6: Gate Speed Trap
- Place your ball 1 club length from the hole.
- Set the Gate Trainr just in front of the hole at widest setting.
- Putt through the gate and into the cup.
- Make 5 in a row.
Drill 7: Gate Speed Trap 2
- Complete Drill 6.
- Narrow the gate one setting.
- Make 5 in a row again.
- Repeat until you succeed at the smallest setting.
Drill 8: Gate to Target
- Place the gate 1 club length from the hole.
- Set your ball 1 club length behind the gate.
- Putt through the gate and into the hole.
- Repeat until 5 successful putts in a row are made.
Drill 9: The Ladder
- Set gate to widest setting.
- Mark putting spots at 1, 2, and 3 club lengths.
- Make 5 clean putts from each distance.
- Move back after each round, restarting if you miss.
💪 Expert Challenge: Miss at any distance? Return to the first spot and restart.
Drill 10: The Ladder (Hard)
- Complete Ladder at widest setting.
- Narrow the gate one level and repeat the full ladder.
- Continue narrowing until smallest gate width is completed.
💪 Expert Challenge: Miss at any point? Restart from first position with the widest setting.
Drill 11: Left of Cup
- Set left gate foot to widest, right foot to narrowest setting.
- Place ball 1 club length away.
- Putt through the gate and into the hole.
- Repeat 5 times in a row.
Drill 12: Left of Cup Ladder
- Use Drill 11 gate configuration.
- Mark 1, 2, and 3 club length hitting spots.
- Make 5 clean putts at each distance.
- Move back after each round.

Drill 13: Right of Cup
- Set right foot to widest, left to narrowest setting.
- Place ball 1 club length away.
- Make 5 clean putts through the gate and into the hole.
Drill 14: Right of Cup Ladder
- Use Drill 13 gate configuration.
- Mark hitting spots at 1, 2, and 3 club lengths.
- Make 5 clean putts from each distance.
💪 Expert Challenge: Miss a shot? Restart from the first position.
Drill 15: Foot Alignment
- Separate the Gate Trainr feet from the top.
- Place one foot in front of each of your toes.
- Practice squaring your stance to the feet line.
- Putt with a ball centered in your stance.
Drill 16: Gate Foot Tempo
- Place ball on a flat spot.
- Set feet 1 foot before and after the ball.
- Use a smooth "1-2" tempo for backswing and follow-through.
- Repeat for 10 strokes, counting out loud or recording.
Drill 17: Pressure Putts
- Set gate 1 putter length away at medium width.
- Mark a tee 2 feet behind as a restart zone.
- Try to make 10 in a row.
Drill 18: Uphill Gate Challenge
- Find a slight uphill slope.
- Place Gate Trainr 2 feet in front of the ball at medium width.
- Putt through the gate and stop within 1 foot past.
- Repeat for 10 reps.
Drill 19: Downhill Gate Control
- Place Gate Trainr 1.5 feet ahead on a downhill slope.
- Use widest gate setting.
- Putt softly through gate and stop within 1 putter-head past.
- Repeat 5 in a row.
Drill 20: Eyes Closed Feel Drill
- Set up with gate 1 putter length away at medium width.
- Line up with eyes open, then close eyes before putting.
- Roll ball by feel and listen for results.
- Repeat for 10 reps.
Drill 21: Alternate Hand Challenge
- Place gate 1 putter length away.
- Switch grip to non-dominant hand.
- Make 5 clean putts.
Bonus: Alternate hands every putt for a coordination challenge.
Drill 22: Distance Control Gate Run
- Set up gates at 3, 6, and 9 feet using widest width.
- Putt through each gate in sequence.
- Make 1 through each and complete the circuit 3 times.
Drill 23: Walk-Into-It Drill
- Set gate 1 club length away.
- Stand 3 feet away, facing back.
- Walk into setup and hit within 5 seconds.
- Repeat for 10 reps.
Drill 24: Mirror Gate Drill
- Place alignment mirror behind gate.
- Set Gate Trainr 2 feet in front.
- Use mirror to square up your eyes and shoulders.
- Putt through gate while checking alignment.
Drill 25: Distance Drop-In
- Set the Gate Trainr feet 1 club length apart.
- Walk 10–20 steps away and mark your hitting spot.
- Try to stop the ball between the two feet without touching them.
- Repeat from 3 different distances.
Drill 26: Gate-to-Gate Lag Drill
- Place 2 Gate Trainr feet at your start zone, 2 feet apart.
- Walk 15–30 feet away and place the other 2 feet to form a target zone.
- Roll long putts and try to stop the ball between the target feet.
- Narrow the zone as you improve.
Drill 27: Visual Target Drill
- Stand the Gate Trainr feet upright in the ground like goalposts.
- Set them 5–8 feet away from your ball.
- Roll the ball through the narrow visual gap.
- Adjust angles to simulate different breaks.
Drill 28: Chase the Gap
- Place Gate Trainr feet 6 inches apart.
- Start 3 feet away and make a clean putt through the gap.
- Move back 1 foot after every successful make.
- See how far back you can go.
Drill 29: Speed Trap Stop Zone
- Place the feet 1 club length behind the hole.
- Putt to the hole and try to stop the ball before it reaches the feet.
- Helps train soft touch and pace control.
If the ball touches or passes the feet, it’s too fast.
Drill 30: Random Distance Game
- Place one foot randomly on the green.
- Drop a ball at any distance (15–30 feet).
- Try to stop the ball as close to the foot as possible.
Optional: Add a second foot to create a defined stop zone.
